End of year Auditions
At the end of each year, all choir students, 9th-11th grade, are required to complete a placement audition. This applies to each student regardless of their enrollment in the program the following year. Seniors are exempt from this requirement.
All returning students are required to fill out this Microsoft Form.
Aural Skills and Vocal Production
Students should be able to perform the following:
Simple vocalizations to assess range, tone, and tessitura. No preparation is necessary for this portion.

MELODIC MINOR WITHOUT HARMONIZATION
Chromatic scale sung on solfege (there are tracks provided below for practice, but the audition will be performed a cappella)

Students will be provided a tonic triad and 45 seconds to practice. Students are encouraged to practice out loud. They will then perform the provided melody at their selected tempo. Practice materials are below. The melodies in the audition will be different than what is provided below.
TONIC TRIAD AND STUDY TIME: #1 | #2 | #3

2. Music Theory
Because in-class time is generally devoted to vocal technique and performance practice, students will need to spend some time learning/reviewing basic music theory concepts. Once students know these concepts, they will not need to spend a significant amount of time reviewing them as they are applying their knowledge each day.
Students will be assessed on the following via written assignment:
Identify note names on treble and bass clef up to two ledger lines above and below each staff
NOTE NAME LESSON AND PRACTICE LINKS
Identify piano key note names
PIANO KEY LESSON AND PRACTICE LINKS
Identify major key signatures up to four sharps and four flats
