Chamber Choir Auditions

Auditions for the 25-26 school Year: April 24 and 25, 2025

The Chamber Choir is a highly selective mixed ensemble that is enrolled in two periods of choir each year - 5th and 6th period. The Chamber Choir is our main outreach choir, performing for elementary and middle schools throughout the Fall, Winter, and Spring. Students interested in joining should be strong singers, be highly motivated, and have excellent sightsinging skills. All singers, both new and returning, must complete the audition detailed below.

Before auditioning, students should ensure they meet or can meet the following criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in Clements Choir

  • Chamber Choir parents/guardians/families are required to volunteer for at least one event throughout the year

  • Be available for the entirety of Saturday, March 7th, 2026 for the Houston Madrigal & Chamber Choir Festival

  • Be enrolled in private voice lessons (there are scholarships available)

  • Audition for All-State and sing for Solo Contest

  • Be available for a rigorous extra performance schedule, especially in the month of December

The Audition

1. Vocalize

  • We will vocalize you to assess your tone, range, and vocal technique.

2. Ensemble Singing and Musicality

  • You will perform the cuts listed below with your UIL recording. We will assess tone and vocal technique, pitch and rhythmic accuracy, how you manage your voice in your ensemble, and musicality without reminders from a conductor.

  • Sonoro 

  • The Cowboy - sing all 

  • A Cappella 

  • The Arrow and the Song - track starts pickup m. 9, sing pickup m. 11 to 25 

  • Cantiamo 

  • Adoramus Te - track starts @ m. 8, sing “et benedicimus” to m. 28 

  • Concert Chorale 

  • My Spirit Sang All Day - track starts m. 17, sing pickup to m. 20 to end

3. SightSinging

  • You will sing a 6-8 measure sightsinging exercise.

    • It will contain several accidentals. We want to see how you overcome adversity when reading difficult music. 

    • You will get 1 minute to study. You should practice out loud to give us an opportunity to see how you practice and learn music. 

    • We will play the tonic triad, but you will not receive any other guidance. 

    • After the study period, you will sing through the excerpt as best as you can.

4. Interview

  • We will ask you a few questions. Be prepared to answer honestly about any strengths and weaknesses you may have.
